Online business: Before You Start

By Bate Dulin
Everywhere you look you'll see ads on starting an online business claiming to make you rich. Obviously this is untrue or everyone who owns a cumputer would be rolling in cash. Not all of these offers are scams but then again not all people have the mindset or the discipline to actually earn money online. Working in your pajamas sounds great in theory yet many lack focus or drive to get the job done. No data entry, online survey, or advertising company that I know of will pay you for just turning on your computer, work is involved. Business success and failure are the same for the home as well as the marketplace. People who possess a good work ethic will prosper no matter where they work. The key is having those skills or knowing where to get them. Many of the businesses available online provide you with the tools you need, some do not! The question you have to ask yourself is simple, am I willing to get the training I'll need to be able to make a living. Researching online jobs can be as easy as speaking with friends and family. Making an evaluation based on ads or commercials are not accurate. Remember the testamonials you watch or read are most likely made by compensated writers and actors. Finding a friend or family member whose judgment you trust can sometimes be difficult but don't give up, it't well worth the effort. Working from home isnt the same as working in an office; you are the boss, employee, and if you dont schedule your time accordingly, you have nobody to blame except yourself. There are online jobs and if you are unfamiliar with data entry or freelance writing then staying home might not be the best choice. It does take a fair amount of patience and time to enter information or do research to fully understand the commitment of working from home. Evaluating a company you've chosen is not as difficult as you may think. Many reviews are available to you online to assist you in making an informed decision. After all don't you do this on a daily basis with most companies you have dealings with already. The Better Business Bureau, FBI and local law enforcement can also help with this-often with online services. Make no mistake there are scam artists out there and realizing that scams, frauds, and deceptive practices, are consistantly evolving make you a much harder victim for them. Working from home can be a blessing or a curse. Whether you feel stuck in a dead end job, retired too early, or just think you have the skills to make it on your own, working at home is an option to consider. Self-employment is on the rise for many reasons and like causual friday dress and flex hours in the workplace its here to stay, so stay informed and make decisions that fit you and your goals.
